1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They allow the website to remember information across pages and visits — such as whether you are logged in, your interface preferences, or a security token tied to your session. Similar technologies include local storage (data stored in your browser) and session tokens (server-side session identifiers).
2. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for the following purposes only. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or sell data derived from cookie activity.
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the Service to function correctly. The Service cannot operate without them and they cannot be disabled.
| Cookie / Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie (Laravel Sanctum) | Authenticates your logged-in session on the organizer dashboard and admin panel. Without this, you would be logged out on every page. | Session (cleared on browser close) or configurable persistent session |
| CSRF token | Prevents cross-site request forgery — a security attack where a malicious site tricks your browser into submitting unauthorized requests. Required on all state-changing form submissions. | Session |
| Flash message token | Stores one-time notification messages (e.g., "Your event was saved") to display on the next page load. | Single page load |
2.2 Preference cookies
These remember choices you have made in the interface. They improve your experience but are not required for core functionality.
| Cookie / Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Theme preference | Stores your light/dark mode preference so it persists across visits. | 1 year |
| Dismissed notices | Tracks whether you have dismissed optional notices or banners so they are not re-shown. | 30 days |
| Referral attribution | If you followed a referral link, remembers the referral code so the person who shared it is credited if you sign up. Only set once you have chosen "Accept" or customized this category in the cookie banner below. | Browser session |
2.3 Analytics
We use no analytics cookies and no third-party analytics service. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no cross-site tracking on this site.
Event pages do count visits, so a host can see how many people opened their invitation. That counting happens on our own servers, computed from a one-way keyed hash of your IP address and browser type — a value that cannot be turned back into your IP address without a secret only we hold, and which changes every day. We keep those records for 13 months. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not share them.
On your device, this counting sets one small marker in your browser's local storage so the same page view is not counted twice in one visit. That marker holds no personal data — just the fact that this page was already counted — and it is only set once you have accepted the "Analytics" category in the cookie banner below; if you decline, the marker is never set and that visit is simply not counted.
2.4 Your choices
When you first visit, a banner lets you accept all non-essential categories, decline them, or choose which of Preferences and Analytics to allow — accepting and declining are equally easy, and nothing beyond strictly necessary storage (section 2.1) is set until you choose. You can change your mind at any time from the "Cookie choices" link in the site footer, which reopens the banner. If we ever add a third-party analytics tool, this section will be updated first and it will be gated behind its own category in that banner.
3. Cookies Set by Third Parties
When you use payment features (e.g., Stripe Checkout), Stripe may set its own cookies to maintain the security of the payment session. These are subject to Stripe's privacy policy. We have no control over these cookies and do not have access to their contents.
4. Managing and Disabling Cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View cookies set by websites you have visited
- Delete specific cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific sites or third parties
- Set your browser to notify you before accepting cookies
Important: Disabling strictly necessary cookies (section 2.1 above) will prevent you from logging into your account, submitting forms, and completing RSVPs as a guest. If you disable session cookies, the Service will not function correctly.
You can find cookie management instructions for common browsers at:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Preferences → Privacy and Security
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
5. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers support a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no industry-standard interpretation of DNT signals, we do not currently alter our data collection practices in response to DNT signals. However, since we do not use cross-site advertising tracking, the practical impact for most users is minimal.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of technologies evolves. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the Service or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
